Success Strategies to Skyrocket Your Income with X (Twitter)

Laptop, smartphone and money in male hands on a blue background, top view.

Having the horror of being stuck in the rat race with not enough time, money, and meaning and then being given hope to turn that around was worth taking Twitter’s bait into its addictive ocean.  Besides, a global pandemic shut us in, so it was a decent way to burn time indoors anyway.

Let’s back up…

“Why on earth are people so obsessed with their phones?!  I don’t get it,” I used to think, puzzled by these petite rectangles’ magnetic power over people.

Well, a special realm within Twitter got me.  It annihilated my ignorance and… immunity.  During the Covid-19 lockdowns, random tweets popped up on my phone, and what caught my eyes revolutionized my life’s trajectory forever.  I had stumbled upon #MoneyTwitter.

What is Money Twitter?

Money Twitter is a vast group of individuals who post on Twitter (now renamed to X.com) about making money on one’s own.  It has a high emphasis on passive income, building wealth through a side hustle, turning your side hustle into your full hustle, or starting a business as an entrepreneur in general.  The community includes noobs to major players, funny memes, recurring themes, and a vigorous passion to escape the rigged Matrix – freeing your heart, mind, finances, and life from mediocrity and your inner prison.

This has led to people earning extra cash on the side and gaining education through the free advice and courses sold, which can reveal gems you weren’t taught in your overpriced college.  Some quit their lifeless day jobs once they found they could turn their side job into their full-time job.

X new Twitter social media app on the smartphone screen on black background table. Office environment.
Twitter has been renamed to X, and the new leadership is changing the platform to increase your ability to monetize.

With the little time and energy you may be lucky enough to still have after work, joining a motivational and educational group to facilitate your business or creative journey seems nice.  But in real life, it can be hard finding the right match within a reasonable distance, spending the time when you’re busy or “busy”, or you just want to relax and be lazy cozy after a long and hard workweek at your day job.  Plus, you may have kids, other time-consuming commitments, or a demanding cat scheming a coup d’état.  When you’re burnt out like smoking, black toast, who’d want to go out while running on zero fuel anyway?

This neck of the woods in Twitter pumped me up like never before.  I was inspired by like-minded people and was amazed at this online phenomenon and its ability to move me forward.  I could network and engage with impressive, successful people in my pajamas, having access to connections I may have never encountered otherwise, without the commute.  It’s an unending business conference in your pocket.

I’m writing this blog post to:

  • Share various money-making ventures and side hustles you can learn about on X/Money Twitter
  • Motivation: give you hope that there IS a way you can make extra income without having an enormous initial investment and large amount of time, and best-case scenario, while doing what you’re passionate about and enjoy
    • Includes these subtopics: Let’s Run the Numbers; How Can You Earn $10,000 a Month Online?; Ten [Money-Making] Paths You Can Take; My Method to Get Motivation: A Version of Free Online Business Coaching; Resources to Give You Shortcuts and Make This Easier
  • Disclose red flags to prepare you against mischief and the troublemakers, which is common when moh-NAYYY is involved (plus a little Money Twitter history would be fun)

Are you stoked to find out more?  If you are, then how can you use X to increase your income in a way you enjoy, even if you don’t have a surplus of free time?

Let’s next see if Money X’s topics and what you like doing match. Please keep in mind that not everyone will be successful or make enough to quit their day jobs, but it has been done.

Money Twitter (X) Topics

I’d first like you to think about your skills, talents, and hobbies.  What can you teach or do for other people?  Are you:

  • A whiz at a particular software?
  • A writer?
  • A gamer?
  • A marketer?
  • Know Adobe photoshop?
  • Know all about cars?
  • A metaverse, NFT, VR, AR, Ai, or wide-ranging Web 3.0 expert?
  • A sports fan?
  • Knowledgeable about accounting, trading, real estate, etc.?
  • Funny or entertaining?
  • Artsy?
  • Musical?
  • A great cook?
  • A great salesman or saleswoman?
  • Can code?
  • Nerdy about a topic?
  • Have valuable information to sell?
  • Have skills and knowledge from your day job you can teach?
  • Can make and sell handmade crafts?
  • Love TV or movies or pop culture in general?
  • Obsessed with sci-fi and fantasy, etc.?
  • Want to learn a new skill that you can use to make money online?

Write down your interests/passions that you would want to tweet about. Now consider this:

Determine which interests fit into all four categories above. If you don’t have any matches, you can still learn new skills or earn income.

The following are topics on Money Twitter (X) that can help you with your side gig or be your business itself.  Even if you want to freelance or teach a skill that you have not yet learned, view the list below for inspiration.  At the end of this, I will return with a useful exercise.

General Topics on Money Twitter/X

  • Affiliate marketing
    • Pick a niche you like.  You write or talk about other people’s products related to that niche and gain a commission when someone buys it through your (affiliate) link, which you post.  This could be a simple path to start with if you are passionate about a subject and don’t want to hinder initial motivation.
  • Art selling via Print-on-Demand (POD)
    • You put your photos or art on merchandise, including clothes, mugs, framed prints, knickknacks, notebooks, bags, stickers, cards, etc., through websites offering online POD services.  When you sell your products, another company takes care of the manufacturing, shipping, transactions, and more for you. Examples of companies that offer POD services are Redbubble, Zazzle, and Amazon Merch.

    • Photography
  • Blogging

Money tweeters, if I missed any ways to make money from home or side gigs to your full-time job, whether they’re part-time jobs on the side, freelance remote jobs, or a full-fledged entrepreneurship, feel free to leave a comment about it!  Now determine how the interests/passions that you are interested in can be merged with any of the topics above in a way that can help make you income.

Never skip marketing research. To know which categories people are already buying in to see if they match the topics you chose… that are also both HIGH IN DEMAND and HAVE LOW COMPETITION – that critical sweet spot – check out Joshua Lisec’s video course (transcribed as well): The Best Way to Market Research It: Find Your Golden Idea & Create What People Will Buy (aff.).  Read my personal review on it first: Course Review: The Best Way to Market Research It: Find Your Golden Idea & Create What People Will Buy.

One quick extra tip is to immerse yourself in doing what your target audience does: reading what they read, hanging out where they are on social media, subscribing to the email newsletters they would, etc.  (Credit: @FrazzleDazzzled.) I may blog more about marketing research in the future.

But how will you market yourself, service, or product once you finish your market research and choose to sell what people crave right now?  I will end this segment with something that Joshua Lisec taught me.  He is a WSJ bestseller and top ghostwriter with 70+ books written for entrepreneurs, CEOs, and celebrities.

I signed up for his premium newsletter (aff.) and monthly Zoom Q+A group call.  The price has increased since then, but here I’m sharing a valuable exercise he gave me on a call.  The purpose is to help you clarify your marketing strategy once you choose your desired topic(s) and type of business.  It’s simple, but effective.

The FEF Exercise

X Functional: What can you do better, faster, easier?

Y Emotional: What do you want your target audience to feel?

Z Financial: How will you save them time or help them make money?

Fill in the following XYZ blanks to help market yourself.  Let the reader understand that this is your message within the writing, whether it be a blog post, tweet, email, or sales copy:

You will do X better, feel Y about it, and it will save you Z.

Saving them time can also include giving them information you had spent a lot of time collecting (through reading, your experiences, YouTube, etc.)  The financial category may not be applicable if you are selling something creative or based on entertainment.  Permission granted by Joshua Lisec to post this exercise.

I’ve heard this advice more than once: write like you’re speaking to ONE specific person who represents your target audience.  You may end up drawing in people that vary from your targeted demographics as well.

I hope this helps!  This is not the full scope of advice I can give, but may this encourage you to seek out more resources on Money Twitter/X.  Now let’s get you motivated.

Motivation to Get You Unstuck

Let’s Run the Numbers

Let’s ignite you to take action and stop feeling like a mediocre loser who’s trapped.  You were not meant to live wasting your life away in unhappiness, craving paychecks that never arrive fast enough and don’t resolve your financial concerns and problems.

I find these simple money calculation tweets motivating.  Yes, this is basic math, but it IS encouraging:

How Can You Earn $10,000 a Month Online?

Someone on X asked, “How can I earn $10,000 a month from Content Writing?”  Even if writing isn’t your thing, the general concept in my following reply applies to many types of selling, from eBooks to courses to memberships to coaching to services and more.

Right now, are you thinking $10k per month is too crazy for you to achieve all by yourself?  Perhaps your mind will change after you see a simple strategy you can use below.

Start out by doing it for free, but you must collect good testimonials from your clients. Then use the testimonials to get paid clients (credit @FrazzleDazzzled for this advice).  As you get more clients, increase the price until one day you reach your target price.  Get five people who will pay you $2,000 per month or ten who will pay you $1,000 per month, or whatever combination you choose. Of course, you must have success in what you’re selling and delivering, so it’s not guaranteed that everyone will make at least $10,000 per month.

Now let’s use an actual client case – me.  The people in which I’ve paid a larger amount have significant similarities, and the most I’ve spent on a Money Tweeter was a multiple four-figure amount.  Here is what they all have done at the basic level, and this knowledge is common:

  • They give value through teaching or educating.
  • They post content that inspires or motivates people.
  • They are entertaining.

Again, these are just the basics, which many have done, whom I never paid at all.  What it takes to get to the next level and open up the wallet wider (from my personal observation) has been:

Videos

They have all posted videos of themselves talking on X/Twitter.

Credentials and Proof of Results

They share their clients’ successes and testimonials and some have amazing credentials.

Content

They have given away free high-value content.

Relatable

Most have showed more vulnerability and openness a few times at least.  Connection through storytelling is a plus.

Edgy

They have posted edgier, blunt, gritty, and/or polarizing tweets at times.

Personality

They have a distinct character with clear-cut mannerisms, beliefs, or sayings, separating them from the blend of everyone else.  In fact, Joshua Lisec had said, “The key to bingeable fiction is characters.”  It’s not a surprise that this can work for nonfiction real people too.

Ten Paths You Can Take

Dollar sign and gold on a smartphone

What are some tentative roadmaps you can follow to pursue an online hustle?  There is more than one trajectory you can follow in your online entrepreneurial journey.  The following are some ideas; feel free to change them to fit what you are interested in.

Four Things to Mention First

1.) Keep in mind some terms to get you thinking: Do-It-Yourself, Done-With-You, and Done-For-You (credit: Joshua Lisec).  Do-It-Yourself is when you sell an information product and the individual learns and acts on what they read without contacting you.  Selling eBooks, courses, paid communities, offering coaching, and more can be considered Done-With-You as long as they can contact you for help during the process.  If you’re a freelancer or offering to provide a service, then that’s Done-For-You.

2.) Again, you must also do marketing research to see what is high in demand and even better, low in competition.  Perhaps you want to do a side hustle that’s in a saturated market and high in demand despite this.  In this situation, you can put a particular angle on it and overdeliver in a way to stand out from the competition.

3.) I must mention that email marketing is crucial; one, to keep in contact with your customers if your social media accounts go down.  Two, it has been praised on and on for being an effective way of selling your products, services, or recommended products (affiliate marketing).  This may end up being where a major amount of your sales or clients come from.

In your emails, give value and something extra from what you post in public and don’t be spammy with the selling.  You can also hire someone to do this for you.  Right now I’m doing it myself and using a platform that’s free for under a certain number of followers called MailerLite (mailerlite.com).

4.) If you’re too busy to go on social media throughout the day, you can use apps to automate the scheduling of your posts.  I mention Hypefury (hypefury.com) in #4.  You can schedule tweets on X itself for free, but Hypefury offers more delicious benefits and features.

Ten Money-Making Paths

1.) Pick a specific niche that is high in demand and low in competition, and even better, it’s one that you’re passionate about.

Find popular items that are selling in that niche to make commissions from affiliate marketing them.  You can use anything you already bought as well – scroll down to the bottom of the website’s homepage to check if they have an option for you to be an affiliate for them.

To gain an audience, write posts on social media that are engaging, interesting, valuable, and authentic (review the prior subsection for more on this).  Mix in tweets that include promoting what you are an affiliate for, but balance this in a way that is appropriate.

If you have created a blog, write articles on the topic and use SEO to increase your rank in Google search.

Write reviews on the products as another way to affiliate market.

Start a YouTube, podcast, and community (paid or unpaid) about the topic.  To try getting more eyeballs, use targeted advertising on social media to drive traffic to your blog or landing page.

If you wish to exit, you can sell the blog to someone else and then do this again or put the cash into a new business venture.

2.) Post on X and build a following while collecting email addresses, using a lead magnet. Lead magnet example: offering a freebie eBook where they need to submit their email address to receive it.  Now they are signed up for your email newsletter.

Do email marketing in the email newsletter and offer extra value in that content.

Affiliate market to your subscribers from time to time.  Perhaps you will make your own information product or course to sell.

Once you become large enough, collaborate with others to launch a paid community.

3.) Learn a skill like: copywriting; social media marketing; digital advertising (ex: Google PPC, Facebook ads, etc.); making websites; digital art or graphic design (ex: X banners, logos, ads, metaverse, NFT’s, etc.); audio or video editing; business planning; email marketing; coding; SEO; etc.

Do it for free, but get great written testimonials and review ratings from those clients.

Start charging for your service once you have some amazing reviews you can show people.

Keep increasing the price.  If you wish, offer more things with your service to further justify increasing your price.

Look into investing some of your profits.

If you want to take it to another level, coach, start a Patreon, make a course, podcast about your industry, start a services business, etc. .

4.) Lawrence King believes in working smarter and not harder.  Sometimes life can be time-constraining and jampacked so you need a side hustle with a super low time cost and budget.

You may also be in the process of getting your motivation for life back, you’re not the creative type, or nothing I mentioned here sounds appealing and you want that cash with less effort and personal touch. PLEASE NOTE that this article was drafted before Elon Musk became the CEO of Twitter (now X), so there may be new restrictions regarding using this method.

It’s a legendary tale that he has loads of automated Twitter accounts.  Automated – yes, AUTOMATED.  He has hinted on automated social media engagement bots that are, “designed to interact in an almost humanesque way with individuals in my target market […] could automate the sales process 10 x over while collecting emails with an auto responder.”

He has recommended buying batches of platitudes or quotes from Fiverr to use as posts.  Platitudes can appeal to a general audience and are a low effort way to get attention, but remember that this method is not satisfactory for all online business endeavors and might not build deep connections with your audience and make them superfans.

Next, you can use a scheduler like Hypefury (hypefury.com) to tweet them throughout the day for you.  At the time of this writing (please double check for yourself), @LifeMathMoney offers a free subscription for three months to Zlappo (Tweet or Post Scheduler), a free two-month trial to SmarterQueue (Bot Automator), and a swipe file you can use for inspiration with his eBook called The Art of Twitter: Build a Business That Makes You $100/Day (aff.).  The eBook includes advice and a system you can follow.

I doubt Hypefury offers automatic replies to comments, and I am against automating comments myself, but if you are interested in an app that both schedules your tweets and replies to people for you, here is Lawrence’s advice regarding Socinator:

I am not familiar with Socinator, so do your own research on it.  You can Google to investigate other ones as well.  Many people like Hypefury for just scheduling tweets.

5.) Do affiliate marketing to get some initial cash, and then later sell an eBook, then sell a course, and create a high-ticket offer or service.

The high-ticket offer can be coaching, completing a service (that you taught them how to do in your eBook, which they would rather have you do than themselves), a premium newsletter and community, a physical product, managing something for them where they pay you $500 to $10,000 per month, etc.  It’s common sense to target wealthier people the higher you charge.  Also, the higher the ROI they’ll get from working with you, the more you should be comfortable with charging.

6.) Are you a fiction writer?  Start a blog, affiliate market, publicize your creative writing and books on your blog and social media, and sell collateral creative works that pertain to your book and blog. Create a scene from your book in the metaverse with links to buy your book and more.  Hold events in the metaverse or social audio as well.  Dream big.  Attempt to have Hollywood, Amazon, or Netflix make a movie of your book!

7.) Retail Arbitrage: Buy items, sell those items for a higher price, and make a profit.  You could also gather items from garage sales, flea markets, or your creepy attic too.  You could pour some of your profits into a different business venture when you have enough cash.

Joe Hart is a big name in Money Twitter for reselling and offers help.

8.) Create a Software as a service (or SaaS) charging a monthly or annual subscription.

Invest in Real Estate to earn passive income from rent once you make enough bank.

9A.) Are you an artist?  Sell your art on Etsy, via NFT’s, or POD services like Redbubble, Zazzle, Amazon Merch, etc.

9B.) Create a Patreon. You can offer multiple layers of subscriptions and you can increase the price for higher tiers.  One suggestion to use: allow people to see your progress working behind the scenes.  Determine what other special perks you can offer through the platform.

9C.) Sell NFT’s but do not be scammy or rug-pully and it’s great for there to be utility for them.  They can be used as a ticket to a community, private online or real life event pass, subscription to a service, access to special perks or discounts you create for your NFT holders, including AMA’s with you, private Discord channels, token-gated games, raffle tickets, and more. However, if you guarantee your holders more perks than having the art NFT, you must be savvy with your NFT earnings so you don’t run out of funds to fulfill your promises.

9D.) You could go on YouTube and make passive income by allowing advertising on your artsy videos or just use it as a method to market your work.

10.) Are you funny or entertaining?  Showcase yourself on social media.

After that, you could: write and sell a book, do podcasts, do a comedy show in a metaverse world, freelance write for companies/small businesses or blogs, do YouTube, etc.

Darker blue background.

You can mix and match these money-making paths however you want.  I recommend that you research about investing your money to further increase your income. This could accelerate your income by an enormous amount if you do it right.

Ghostwriter Joshua Lisec recommends writing a book at a certain point to give you authority.  It can also be used as a business card to send to potential clients.

My Method to Get Motivation: A Version of Free Online Business Coaching

What motivated me to pursue my dream of online business and blogging?  It was the result of setting up notifications for some Money Tweeters’ tweets to appear on my phone as they posted.  If you want to set this up, you can view my post, Money Twitter Directory, to follow some of the people of Money Twitter/X.  On this post, I highlight 23 tweeters and provide a link to a large list of Money Twitter people you can follow.

If you yearn to build your empire, I recommend you do this too – set your smartphone to receive push notifications of your favorite Money Tweeters for three months – it should give you hope to change your life around with your finances, wealth, and even better, more than that.  It was like having a coach getting me 10x stoked.

Resources to Give You Shortcuts and Make This Easier

The following list shows you what resources are out there to help you monetize, but remember, you can gather countless free tips on Twitter, now known as X.  This list should give you more direction, hence hope and motivation to pursue an online entrepreneurial adventure.

At the time of writing this blog post, you’re learning about this as I am either learning or organizing the knowledge I found, but in case you’re craving my actual resources that are free or that I purchased: visit my page called Money Twitter University – My Resources.  Remember, do your own research by checking out the testimonials and researching the credentials of the people.

The following list, which states resources that are out there, are in the realm of my interests or based on what I bought, so they may not all match the type of hustle you want to pursue.  However, using social media to bring traffic to what you are selling is essential, especially if you are not paying for advertising, so some of these should apply to you no matter what.

How to:

  • Affiliate market
  • Apply SEO to increase your website’s search engine ranking
  • Blog
  • Brand yourself or your service

Money Twitter Scandals

New movements and communities can come across some growing pains.  This community tends to call out shady behavior, but in case you missed the news – read up on these past scandals to protect yourself and be deterred from temptation yourself.  This flock doesn’t like moldy worms.

Accounts Duplicating Popular Accounts

I remember C.J. Johnson had this happen to him.  It appears to be more common with accounts involving trading and crypto.  If an account ever asks you for money, be skeptical and check if it is an imposter account.  Report them to the victim and X.

People Stealing Others’ Content

The community is vocal about this; the squawks of a whole flock of tweeters have resounded when naughty birds were caught.  Do not do it!  People sometimes steal each other’s tweets.  They also copy others’ writing, place the stolen content in their eBooks, and then sell it!  The Money Twitter Police are watching.

Rugged Accounts

This happens from time to time.  Jack Butcher, a big name in the community was rugged since Twitter thought his different accounts were too similar.  He explained it to them, but I’m not sure if he recovered it or not.  This is why it is important to not put all your eggs in one basket with Twitter; have an email list to have access to your fans or another way of connecting with them.

An MLM Smell from Twitter Growth Guide eBooks

Just don’t do it.  Though, it is a comical meme.  What happens is people buy an eBook on how to grow followers on Twitter.  Then it’s like as soon as they get a small number of followers, they make an eBook on how to grow followers (maybe even copying the other’s eBook too).  Then someone with the same idea buys an eBook like this and does it, and this goes on and on.  You’re better than this.
Unless you become a super whiz at Twitter and gain an enormous following within the five figures in an impressive, short amount of time, don’t be tempted to write this type of eBook.  Just affiliate market a good one at the most, but don’t make that your whole thing.

Scams

They are everywhere, and Money Twitter/X is not immune.  Watch out for false urgency, meaning that they say you’ll miss out on getting the product or service if you do not get it now. . . but then it’s available and being marketed afterwards!!  Watch out for savvy marketers who try to manipulate you.  If you start feeling guilted, shamed, pressure, or bullied, those are red flags.

Sexism

Money Twitter tends to be male-dominated, and with that comes a few guys who are… well, let’s just say not the biggest fans of women, well, maybe with the exception of their bodies.  Strong women are confident and happy being who they are so it’s easier for those types to ignore it, but it may be a challenge if you want to avoid the negativity.  Just block the accounts involved when you see them.  Rebecca Bardess, a dot-com pioneer and an internet marketing OG, talks about her perspective on this in her blog post titled, What Is Money Twitter?

Yes, I know we’ve turned to a murky corner, but it could prepare you to avoid the traps and embark on an amazing journey with the awesome and genuine ones!  Rebecca sums it up in her post:

[Money Twitter has] vast numbers of deeply philosophical, intelligent, and inspiring posts about the realities of building a business while remaining authentic. These are worth staying for. Trust me on this. If you stay long enough, two things are true: you WILL be offended, and you WILL be inspired. Case in point, one of mine in which people joined in, shared results, and lifted up the community…

Be Responsible

Warning: Remember, you shouldn’t rush into leaving your job unless you can keep up the appropriate work ethic, considered the risks and longevity of your venture, and have fail-safes.  You may have seen those YouTube videos that are trying too hard to sell the dream (example: featuring fancy cars, houses, vacation fun, and the like).  Likewise with Money Twitter/X, don’t have false expectations.  A lucky Dogecoin moment isn’t guaranteed.

Please drop your Get-Rich-Quick mindset involving this; it’s one or more of these:

🟢 Get-Your-Passion-Monetized

🟢 Earn-Extra-Income

🟢 Make-Work-Fun-and-Meaningful-Again

🟢 Be-Your-Own-Boss

🟢 First-Step-to-Becoming-Rich-Journey (Stop always trading your time for money.)

🟢 Work smarter, not harder!! Make your money work for you.

Working a regular part-time job and your monetized passion project at the same time may make more sense depending on your situation.  Nevertheless, working smarter instead of harder is encouraged here.  Your productivity at your regular job might increase by doing a side hustle that is different from it because the balance might snuff out your burnout.  Test to see if this is true for you.

Ready to Make Some Extra Cash?

While the world was locking down due to the pandemic, Money Twitter unlocked hope in many people to pursue an online business.  They wanted to have a decent increase in income alongside their day job or studies, escape their 9-5, or dreamed of starting their own company.  I witnessed today’s big stars budding and blooming during that time, including people who did not have English as their first language.  I love that Money Twitter (now Money X) can give hope for people without much extra cash to become a successful online entrepreneur.

For however much you earn right now, I want to share actionable steps with this blog, and as you explore along with me, maybe you’ll come up with ideas and share them that I have not discovered.  I am not a Money Twitter or X guru, but I’ve collected the treasure maps and I want you to join me in finding the gold.

Since this post does not encompass all of the advice and tips I found about online business, marketing, and side hustles, sign up for my newsletter and click the box next to: “Business, Side Hustle, Technology, Making Money” to add you to the category to receive specific email messages about this topic; I may notify you of future advice from Money Twitter/X or general money-making tips in case you miss the post about it.

Inspirational motivating quote on notebook and travel objects with vintage filter. Clipped paper says: Create a life you don't need a vacation from.

You may be stoked to start an online entrepreneurial journey from this.  If you still find it hard to have the energy or motivation when it comes down to doing the work, or your consciousness is snatched by Netflix or other consumy temptations after a long workday or workweek, then you have discovered there’s a second component to pulling this off while working full-time or in general.  I hope to write useful posts to help you get the energy, momentum, self-help, mindset, and spiritual fixes you need as well.

To start you off, visit my Money Twitter Directory to follow people on X whom I consider part of Money Twitter.  I highlight 23 of them and have a link to a large list you can follow.  You can always make your own list on X to give yourself access to a special timeline with your favorites’ tweets.

Let’s conquer life together.
